MSG Secretariat Undergoes Strategic Reforms
30 March 2017
The Secretariat of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG)has been undertaking internal reforms to help formulate its 2018-2020 Corporate Plan and to facilitate that planning process, a Staff Retreat was held at the Aquana Beach Resort outside Port Vila, Vanuatu on 30-31 March 2017.
The Retreat was aimed primarily at identifying strategic measures that would leverage the overall performance and eminence of the Secretariat as a unique sub-regional organisation.
“An integral aspect of this whole exercise is to revisit and strengthen the alignment of the Secretariat’s programming strategies with the core objectives of the Group, as agreed to by our Leaders in the MSG 2038 Prosperity for All Plan,” MSG Director General, Ambassador Amena Yauvoli said.
The Director General added that the Retreat was organised in line with one of the key decisions of the MSG’s Governing Body during its meeting in Port Vila on 20 December 2016, which is to facilitate further improvements to the overall governance of the Secretariat.
“We are committed to improving our internal systems and processes which are vital for the cost-effective execution of the Secretariat’s work programme for the tangible benefit of our Members,” Ambassador Yauvoli emphasised. The Director General acknowledged the financial assistance of the European Union (EU) through the 10th European Development Fund as administered by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
“The support of the EU that was realised through the Pacific Integration Technical Assistance Project, or PITAP, was not only instrumental in the revision of the MSG Trade Agreement and the formulation of the MSG Private Sector Development Strategy, but it also contributed to the institutional strengthening of the Secretariat’s operations,” Ambassador Yauvoli indicated.
The Secretariat engaged the services of independent consultants, Mr Filipe Tuisawau, a Human Resources Specialist, and Mr UraiaRasake, a Brand Trainer, to jointly facilitate the Retreat and shape the new Corporate Plan which is to be presented to the next meeting of the MSG’s Governing Body that is planned for June 2017.
